NEW YORK, Feb 18, 2009 / FW/ — Friday the 13th turned out to be a lucky day for New York fashionistas as Target opened a limited-time Target McQ Market (call it pop up store) at St. John’s Center at 330 West Street at West Houston Street in Manhattan.
Slated to be available nationwide on March 4, 2009, the McQ Alexander McQueen for Target collection took center stage during the VIP Opening Party attended by celebrities and the fashion press elite. And, this was an event that you cannot be fashionably late!
Even among the celebrities, the McQ Alexander McQueen for Target was so popular that those who came in later (party was from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM) found their sizes already sold out or almost empty racks. Fortunately, they were refilled for the February 14 & 15 from 12 noon – 10pm Open to the public time slot. (Scroll to the bottom to see the collection)
Fittingly enough, The British rock bank The Duke Spirit, who was the muse of the collection performed during the VIP shopping party in also the very fitting “environment” of the Target McQ Market featuring booths made of chain link fence, distressed plywood and graffiti covered grates evoking the gritty ambience of Camden Market and nostalgia of a rock ‘n roll club.
And who were seen during the event? New York City’s most fashionable, including January Jones (“Mad Men”), Michelle Trachtenberg (“Gossip Girl”), Amanda Bynes (“Hairspray”), Brittany Snow (“Prom Night”), Whitney Port (“The City”), Gretchen Mol (“Life on Mars”), Rose Byrne (“Damages”), Adrianne Palicki (“Friday Night Lights”), Zoe Saldana (“Star Trek”), Chrisette Michelle (Recording Artist)
Ranging in price from $19.99-$139.99, the McQ for Target line includes a variety of edgy seasonal staples including lightweight sweaters, skinny denim, bubble dresses, slim skirts and cuffed shorts. Stand-out pieces include a coated cotton poplin black trench, tattoo print overlay tank and a colorblock one-shoulder dress.
