Moschino Fall 2009
Moschino Fall 2009

MILAN, Mar 1, 2009 / FW/ — Moschino has always been known for its tongue-in-cheek approach to fashion. It can also be the fashion equivalent of the gridiron; so, is the Moschino Fall 2009 collection a tribute to Suzy Menkes?

(For those new in the fashion business, Suzy Menkes is the Fashion Editor of the International Herald Tribune and she is currently the most influential fashion editor in the whole world, in relation to Anna Wintour being the most powerful.)

That said; let’s go back to the Moschino Fall 2009 collection. With a definitive 1940s flair, the big cabbage rose print is the most unforgettable element in the collection. An hourglass figure courtesy of gathered or darted waist gave the pieces a feminine & flirty feel, while the military-inspired coats and trenches plus the epaulets provided the balance of masculinity, thus avoiding the trap of becoming too girly.

So, where does the tribute to Suzy Menkes come in? The HAIR!

In the fashion world, an identifying mark that makes you stand out is a must. People identify Anna Wintour with her bob and dark sunglasses, Hillary Alexander of the London Telegraph with her half moon eyeglasses, and for Suzy Menkes, her inimitable bangs!
