DALLAS, Aug 10, 2009 / FW/ — Apparently, the neck is not something to be flaunted for fall, but rather it is to be used for decoration.

The idea of the scarf as an ornament for our collar has been taken to a whole new level. This season we see exaggerated neck lines and variations of attachable collars.

Pull-over fur neckwear, fully zipped jackets to the chin, and Ralph Lauren’s fabric scarf commanded the fall runways. Miss Sixty uses shoulder shawls to conceal the shoulder, and Tibi shows a coiled version of a scarf.

Akiko Ogawa commingles geometry with pop collars on jackets, and Andy and Debb decorates turtle necks with floral inspiration.

Matthew Williamson implemented ferocious fur in bold colors to accentuate the collar.

This trend leaves room for personal interpretation, so take your own slant with boldness or subtlety. Replace a necklace with something courageous this season.
