NEW YORK, Nov 30, 2009 / FW/ — Roman Polanski might be sitting in a Swiss jail cell until Friday till he can post his 2.7 million British pounds bail, but there in 1969, the public sympathy was directed towards him.
Married to Sharon Tate from 1968 – 1969, Roman Polanski had to live through the horror of his pregnant wife Sharon being murdered by the Manson Family and attend the funerals of his wife and unborn son.
Before the horrors of 1969, there were happier times and it was during those blissful moments that David Bailey photographed Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski together. This photograph is being auctioned on Monday, December 7 in what will be the final photography sale for 2009 at Christie’s.
Estimated to be sold between $8,000 – $12,000, the Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski photograph is part of the 188 lots that is expected to sell for a total between $950,000 – $1.4 million. The whole lot will be on view to the public from Thursday, December 3 through Sunday, December 6.
