NEW YORK, May 4, 2010 / FW/ — With the theme “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity”, the glitterati came out to attend the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the most important parties of the season.

A scene to be seen, the stairs might not be as imposing as the one in Cannes, but it is a climb nonetheless and one of the best places to show off your gown and tux.

Jessica Alba, who was wearing Gap desert rose and black silk satin gown with train ascended the stairs with her husband Cash Warren.

Oscar-nominated actress Vera Farmiga also opted to wear Gap but chose a baby blue crinkle chiffon ruffle gown with black grosgrain detail for the evening.

Model Elettra Wiedemann arrived in a Marni red floral jacquard dress, black woven belt, gold link bracelets, black organza, horn flower and black ribbon-trimmed evening bag with gold chain and gold leather sandals.

Sasha Pivovarova, Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl also chose to wear Marni for the evening.

Sasha Pivovarova wears a MARNI crepe nude and black dress with silver metal and dark horn dipped in metal cabochon necklace, black sheer and opaque socks, black pony skin “mary janes” and carries a black suede perforated evening bag.

Charlotte Kemp Muhl wears a MARNI double-silk crepe mustard yellow and nude sequin embroidered top, peplum and short with matching boots and carries a black suede and silver leather-trimmed evening bag with silver chain.

Charlotte’s necklaces are made of gold-dipped laurel leaves, black horn dipped in gold and deep violet-colored resin cabochons on gold chains.

Sean Lennon wears a MARNI charcoal grey cool wool suit.

Emma Roberts wears a Marni custom black organza dress with a ceramic and crystal, stone-embellished belt, black suede sling back “mary janes” and a black suede clutch with gold ball frame.
