PARIS, Jan 26, 2011 / FW/ — Georges Hobeika’s collection is an ode to the depth of the female spirit and to the beauty of its mysterious nature. Hobeika titled his collection ‘Nymphe des Profondeurs’ or in English, ‘Maiden of the Deep.’
Taking inspiration from the idea that ‘in every woman’s soul swells a sea of emotion, culminating as priceless treasures on the shore of her innermost desires.’ Hobeika utilized structural elements alongside gorgeous flowing fabrics to highlight the essence of femininity.
Subtle embellishments of moulage, pleats and brine were uniquely cast on luxurious chiffon, georgette, crepe and organza, like fossils etched timelessly into shell and stone. With shades of sea stone in grey-based tones of lilac, beige and white gracing the color palette, the gowns and dresses floated over the runway.
Delicate pleated chiffon gave life to evening separates in the form of a long, flowing skirt paired with a sleeveless top embellished with structured silk spheres. Perfectly feminine ruching and draping accentuated the shape of the Hobeika maiden while cascading chiffon-covered beads swung with her movement.
Constructed shoulders and gloves that resembled conch shells highlighted the designer’s technique and use of architectural elements in the collection. The final bridal gown floated along the runway like a maiden arising from a foamy sea. The mermaid silhouette was boldly framed by a sea of organza pleated ruffles and crystal embroidery.
