NEW YORK, Sep 11, 2011/ FW/ — Entitled “American Expressionist”, the DKNY Spring 2012 collection is a delight to the senses as it celebrates American art and culture.

As the press notes said, it is “West Coast ease meets East Coast edge,” a quality that was emphasized in the opening number – a black seasonless stretch wool tailored jacket dress and ivory crepe de chine step shirt dress followed by the black crepe de chine step slip dress.

And with a floppy hat as the accessories de rigueur, it is easy to imagine women in Malibu or at the Hamptons sporting the ivory crepe de chine shirt dress or the malachite harper print tank dress with an asymmetrical hemline.

Red, white and blue are the main color palette, a very subtle homage to the American flag and a quiet remembrance of the 10th anniversary of September 11. Below is the whole dedication:

9.11.01 – 9.11.11
We remember that day 10 years ago
That changed our city forever.
We remember the courage,
The inspiration, the compassion.
How we came together,
Reaffirming our strength to the world.
There truly is no place anywhere
Like our beloved city,
New York. Our inspiration.
