MONTREAL, FREBRUARY 6TH, 2012 – Cutting-edge creativity rocks as it steps outside the box and morphs into the one-of-a-kind 22nd edition of Montreal Fashion Week, in collaboration with PG Beauty Grooming. Flocking to the first fashion week on the North American calendar in 2012, Montreal fashion week is rolling out the red carpet to welcome a glittering list of dynamic and distinguished designers.
On top of that, what makes this edition more special is, as Jean-François Daviau, the co-owner of Groupe Sensation Mode, said: “Montreal, for the first time this year, was included in the list of the top 50 fashion capitals as reported by the Global Language Monitor – thanks to the outstanding work of the Montreal fashion community and its many events, including Fashion Week, which help showcase this talent beyond our borders.” Needless to say, we are not the only one with great expectations this season.
Starting today and ending on Thursday, the not-so-surprising schedule offers only a few show and new names. Still, Groupe Sensation Mode, the organization behind MFW, succeeded to program great names. Once again, Montreal schedule offers a great line-up of clever designers like the veterans, Marie Saint Pierre and Christian Chenail,; the (not-so) newcomer Tavan Mitto, a designers ‘duo who last presented in MFW in 2003 and the new generation, such as Melissa Nepton, DUY and Martin Lim, winner of Mercedes Benz Start Up contest in Toronto last October.
At the end of the week, we will once again have the chance to appreciate the talent of Montreal’s avant-garde designers, with a collaborative runway show from UNTTLD, Anastasia Lomonova and LYN.
Finally, as usual, TÉLIO, in partnership with RSM Richter, will hold its famous annual “Canada’s Breakthrough Designers contest”, a highly anticipated event in the national fashion calendar each year. This 7th edition will be THE place to discover Canada’s brightest and best young fashion talents.
Hopefully, our creative bunch of designers will all succeed to impress us, to present strong collections and even may be put Montreal in the Top 10 Fashion Capitals. Who knows?
