Beaufille, translated as “handsome girl,” is a Toronto-based womenswear and accessories brand designed by sisters Chloé and Parris Gordon, recently named Forbes 30 Under 30 Art & Style.

For their Spring/Summer 2018 collection, Chloé and Parris play with the idea of perception and the relationship between materials and technique. This idea of material versus technique serves as the contrasting element in the collection, which ties back to the brand DNA of finding balance in contrast.

Beaufille approaches common fabrics like shirting in more of a precious way – dressing them down with techniques that are classically suited for silks, chiffons and satins like carefully placed seaming, tailoring, gathering and ruffles. Amongst classic Beaufille statement pieces, pops of color and texture come in the form of graphic striped knits, a subtle abstract jacquard, high shine fluid satin in violet and textured chiffon in bright red.

High-polished gold plated jewelry finishes each look, challenging the perception of common objects becoming wearable sculpture, such as bowls and vases shrunken and transformed to frame the body. Inspired by their experiments in vase making, each piece takes the curves of this common object – crinkled metal wraps around the wrist and moves up the fingers, while drop earrings and heavy hoops act as plants.

This season, Chloé and Parris feature a set design in the presentation space, conceptualized and executed by Grace Hartnett, a set designer based in Brooklyn. Like Beaufille, Grace focuses on simplicity in her work, integrating surreal sculptural elements to create dimension and space. Gathering inspiration from industrial surroundings and non-linear staging, Grace combined solid and translucent materials such as metal, glass, fabric and cinder blocks to create atypical forms and negative space. The presentation challenges the perception of masculine, feminine, objects and space, complementing and unifying the Spring collection as a whole.

Beaufille is currently sold at Net-A-Porter, Moda Operandi, Bergdorf Goodman, Boutique 1, Forty Five Ten and other luxury boutiques internationally.
