NEW YORK, Feb 18, 2009 / FW/ — Erin Fetherston’s latest collection was a statement of girly sophistication, with an edge.  Fetherston traded in the frills of her past collections for structured silks, crystals, and inverted teacup skirts.

The color palette was gothic, taking advantage of rich cranberry, midnight black, and complimentary crèmes and whites.  Imagine Alice from Alice in Wonderland today in a dark, urban forest wearing a piece from this collection.

This fairy tale theme was also translated into Fetherston’s use of crystal, animal-shaped masks worn as headpieces.  We loved the fantasy in her collection.

Despite the underlying darkness in her looks, girly accents like crystal and leather bows, short hemlines, and super-high platforms added just the amount of romance we expect from Fetherston.  The contrasting color palette and dichotomy of soft, shiny silks and sheer tulles with sharply constructed silhouettes was refreshing.

She took the trend of exaggerating the female form to a new level that we hadn’t yet seen at fashion week.  The ultimate, sophisticated party-girl needs one of Fetherston’s latest frocks if she wants to turn heads this fall.
