Angelina JolieNEW YORK, Dec 21, 2007 / FW/ — As citizens of the world, Angelina Jolie and her husband Brad Pitt maintain homes across the globe, but this holiday season, they are home to help 46,000 to 64,000 children that were displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The Academy-Award winning actress is teaming up with The Children’s Health Fund (CHF) to ensure that these children who are exhibiting risk factors for health, mental health and school performance problems will receive the help that they need.

According to an announcement by CHF, a set of prescriptions that include solutions for appropriate housing relocation options, better access to schools and to comprehensive medical and mental healthcare will be implemented soon.

The CHF initiative was triggered by a study that found that more than half of the displaced children in Louisiana (55.4%) and nearly half in Mississippi (47.1%) have been estimated to show one of three “risk factors” that can have a long term or permanent impact on their lives: a substantial drop in academic achievement, according to their parents; lost access to health care (either medical home or insurance coverage); or clinically-diagnosed depression, anxiety or behavior disorder.
