Moschino Menswear Spring 2009

MILAN, Jun 25, 2008 / FW/ — In the U.S., the Sci-Fi channel has this station ID commercial of a family of three going in a picnic in a forest of dead trees. The woman opens her red and white gingham square piece of cloth and all of a sudden, the place became green and bright with birds singing and flowers blooming as if it was magic!

The ‘magical’ effect could not be done on the runway, but Moschino’s tongue-in-cheek attitude really made everything look fun. A guy wearing dress clothes in Prince of Wales with a picnic basket, there is something romantic about that look.

Yet, instead of making it sugary sweet, Moschino made it rock & roll. It does not sound right, but believe me it works. The trench coat made of fabric blocks, (yes fabric blocks, not color blocks) come in black & white plaid, pin-stripes and jacquard gray, that reminds you of a clean looking hobo.

Then, there is the red and white suit jacket and necktie; couple that with the picnic basket full of bread, the summer picnic in the park was quite obvious. This is not a country picnic though. It’s more like in San Francisco or in Chicago, home of the metro male who are not afraid to experiment with their looks.
