Neil Barrett Menswear Spring 2009
Neil Barrett Menswear Spring 2009

MILAN, Jun 23, 2008 / FW/ — Is it me, or is this collection inspired by the Olympics? No, it does not have the usual colors associated with the Olympiads, as in the colors of the rings. In fact, the collection is signature Neil Barrett – black and white with different shades of gray in between.

Yet, it is hard for me not to think of the Olympics when I saw the sling at the hemline of the trouser legs, well… it’s either an affectation or this collection is about the athlete. Because this is Neil Barrett who always does things for a purpose, I would say that this is baseball without the team colors or better yet, the Olympics, which is happening soon.

Sharply tailored, as always, Neil Barrett is the kind of designer who does not leave anything to chance. It has to be perfect from the moment the first cut was made on the fabric.

Stovepipe pants that fit loosely from the hips, snug fitting jacket that though it may sound like a cliché would look well on the well-formed (not muscular) body of an athlete. Barrett’s nod to color – a small color block on the collar! You’ve got to admit though, it is very eye-catching.

The coup de grace, the two-tone shoes in patent leather. Guys, if you are only allowed to buy ONE formal shoes in Spring 2009, this is the shoes to go for.
