DALLAS, Aug 6, 2008 / FW/ — The number four seem to be Brian Reyes’ constant companion at the moment. He launched his eponymous label when he was just 24 in the year 2004. In 4 short years, Brian Reyes has evolved into an international business with retailers across the globe including New York, Tokyo and Dubai.

Known for his use of romantic fabrics with bold prints to create modern silhouettes, Brian Reyes is part of the new breed of designers who are citizens of the world. As a child, Reyes split his time between the picturesque Andes of Bogota, Colombia and the suburbs of New Jersey and Florida.

Exposed to different cultures at an early age, Brian Reyes knows first hand and understand thoroughly the meaning of the phrase ‘blurring geographical lines’, a reality for the Internet generation and the Millennials, the new fashionistas.

So, it’s not surprising that a Millennial, Ugly Betty star America Ferrera was the one who introduced Brian Reyes to the red carpet by wearing a custom made deep purple Brian Reyes gown during the 2007 Golden Globes awards.

Brian Reyes became an instant hit among young Hollywood and the silver screen’s A-listers including Jennifer Garner, Rachel Bilson, Cate Blanchett, Ali Larter, and Mischa Barton.

Catching up with Brian Reyes, FashionWindows asked the young designer five questions about fashion. A little bit philosophical and a little bit humorous, the questions were deep yet also random.

What is fashion for?
To inspire.

If you were not a fashion designer, what would you be?
A composer or a movie director.

If you were allowed to design ONLY ONE item of clothing and/or accessory, which would it be?

A dolman polo – I love how practical and American it is. Every season we include a new version of the dolman polo in our collection.

If the fashion gods told you to banish ONE item of clothing and/or accessory forever, which would it be?

Stretch elastic printed denim.

When someone says Aphrodite or Ares, everyone knows they are referring to the Goddess of Love and the God of War, respectively. If you were going to give the fashion god a name, what would it be? Will the fashion god be male or female or neither?

I think the fashion god would definitely be female, and her name would be Pandora. Just like Pandora’s Box, you’re always tempted to take risks in fashion, and you never know how those risks will turn out. Ultimately it’s about instinct and possibility.
