JARKARTA, Aug 22, 2008 / FW/ — Indonesian’s motto, ‘Unity in diversity’ fully explains why JFW reserved a catwalk specifically for ethnic inspired creations. Ghea Panggabean, Tuty Cholid and Carmanita created silhouettes based on Indonesian costumes.

Comprised of 17, 508 islands, Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago and one of the most ethnically diverse. To see these costumes on the catwalk, re-imagined and re-interpreted for the modern times stresses the positive effect of ‘infinite diversity means infinite combinations.’

Being held at the Pacific Palace, the most opulent and modern shopping centre in Jakarta, Festival Mode Indonesia – Jakarta Fashion Week 2008 (FMI – JFW 2008) is housed at the massive open-air tent spanning 500 m2.

Officially opened last Aug 20 by Fauzi Bowo, the Governor of the DKI Jakarta Province. FMI – JFW 2008 is expected to be a milestone in the history of the Indonesian fashion industry because it not only answers the challenge of the local market but also serves as an introduction for Indonesian fashion into the region.
