LOS ANGELES, Aug 18, 2008 / FW/ — The hunt for William Petersen’s replacement is as thrilling as watching an episode of CSI. Now, the mystery is solved and CSI got their man – award-winning actor Laurence Fishburne.

Best known among the Baby Boomers for his portrayal of Ike Turner in ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ and to the Gen X and Gen Y as Morpheus in “The Matrix” Trilogy, Laurence Fishburne can be TV’s biggest coup for upcoming season.

For sometime now, award-winning actors from the big screen had chosen to move to television. Glenn Close and Holly Hunter are the latest recruits, the move a boost to their careers and also for television because the shows they are on have been nominated for Emmy Awards.

A long time, for big screen actors, a move to television is a step down. Today, that belief has been erased with made for TV movies and straight to DVD movies making up a big chunk of the entertainment industry.

In short, though fans of William Petersen (including this journalist) is sad to see him go, Laurence Fishburne’s addition to the cast is also a reason to be overjoyed.

Petersen who has been with CSI since 2000, the year that the show started will continue to be part of the series as Executive Producer. The studio had not said how he would leave the show, but it has been reported that his departure from the show is scheduled early 2009.
