Ailanta Spring 2009

MADRID, Sep 18, 2008 / FW/ — Twin brothers Iñaki and Aitor Muñoz, the designers behind the label Ailanto was inspired by the work of French artist Henri Matisse especially his fluid and brilliant use of color.

With a ballerina as the muse, the Munoz brothers used “arabesque for a body, colour ballet for a composition, a receptacle of light for the decoration surrounding her.”

The result, a highly colorful collection that featured the now ubiquitous jumpsuit, bohemian blouses and dresses and romantic silhouettes that quite frankly will fit very well in the country and in the city.

Established in 1992 in Barcelona, Ailanto began carving a niche in Spain’s domestic market in 1995 by taking part at the Gaudí (Barcelona) and Madrid International Fashion Week, distributing its collections to major points of sale in the country.

Since 1999, the firm has achieved international exposure by participating in fairs such as the Prêt-à-Porter Paris Show (Atmosphère) and in creators week in Workshop Paris and Trano¨l.

Ailanto’s main international markets are Japan, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and the United States as well as Belgium and Italy. Ailanto can be found in leading boutiques and department stores such as Bergdorf Goodman (NY), Penélope (Brescia), Seibu (Hong Kong), Barneys (New York), Selfridges (London), Baycrew’s Spick and Span (Tokyo), The American Rag Cie (Los Angeles, San Francisco), and Aquagirl (Tokyo), Purple Phoenix (Berlin), Iris Kalaora (Istanbul) and Chaplin’s (Cyprus).

Ailanto’s collections have been shown within the framework of Pasarela Cibeles in Madrid since 2002.

In June 2004, Ailanto joined the Association of Spanish Fashion Designers, an association which is presided by Modesto Lomba.

In November 2004, Ailanto received the «Best Designer Award», which is bestowed annually by Glamour magazine, as well as the Llongueras Fashion and Image Award in the «Best Designer» category, whose jury comprised directors of the main magazines in the sector in Spain.
