Alessandro Dell'Acqua Spring 2009

MILAN, Sep 26, 2008 / FW/ — First season at Malo and final bow at La Perla, Alessandro Dell’Acqua is a very busy designer, yet he still found the time to create a collection for his eponymous label that made its own statement.

Giving a nod to the neutral palette that has swept the catwalks from New York all the way here to Milan, Alessandro Dell’Acqua envisioned women as sensual urban gypsies. Clothing based on lingerie kept its fluid lines but also given structure by the use of ruching and draping.

And that is the beauty of this collection. Dell’Acqua made sensual sexy (translate that to showing skin without being vulgar). This may sound like pandering, but Dell’Acqua is a true maestro when it comes to creating lingerie-inspired clothing.

There is a timeless sensuality in the transparent veils, and with the fringes added; there is also that urban look without looking like hip-hop. Never crossing that thin line that separates sensuality to offensively sexy, Alessandro Dell’Acqua has kept everything refined, even sophisticated.

And for the coup de grace, lace inserts on jersey dresses showed romance and highlighted the artisanship of true made-by-hand work. With everything taken into consideration, it was a high voltage show with an expected high-voltage results at the cash registers next spring.
