Betsey Johnson Spring 2009
Betsey Johnson Spring 2009

NEW YORK, Sep 12, 2008 / FW/ — Cartoons and clowns wallpapered in the stage and a red French door as the backdrop, Betsey Johnson’s Spring 2009 collection is a delightful interpretation of Pirates of the Caribbean where the damsels in distress look like French mademoiselles and English ladies.

Bright spring colors that include the now ubiquitous pink and the must-have beige, Betsey Johnson sent layered frocks with tiny waists. Ruffles were proposed in different shapes and sizes – from the wide & sheered as seen on the skirts of dresses to tiny and tight on the bodice.

Cracker jack pants and mini skirts adorned with buttons on the side to imitate a cracker jack were paired with short cropped jackets and lace blouses thus giving a romantic element in the collection.

Still Betsey Johnson kept it tight, sticking with the youthful presentation of Pirates of the Caribbean as we see them in Disneyland. Models wore bowler hats over multi-colored wigs cut in a bob.

Stripes were seen on jumpers and jumpsuits, perhaps both as a tribute to Dr. Seuss and also to the undergarments of the sailors of yore.

And while some designers kept it safe, Betsey Johnson held on to her horses and did what she does best – a fun punk collection that has been her hallmark for years. Her fans would surely be pleased.
