MILAN, Sep 24, 2008 / FW/ — ‘The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain,’ who could forget that famous quote from ‘My Fair Lady.’ This play was actually set in London, and not really Christopher Bailey’s inspiration but that’s what came to mind seeing hats and trench coats on the runway.
Christopher Bailey told reporters that he was inspired by his own wild garden and just wanted to give gardening girls something to wear for the rain.
So, it was a parade of trench coats and raincoats – solid colors to degradé, to blouson jackets and waterproof cloaks. It was iconic Burberry; it was also iconic for London, which is known for its rain. Though the rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain, the British has to deal with it year round in its capital city.
Speaking of iconic and the rain in Spain, the rumor mill is full of news that Keira Knightly will take Audrey Hepburn’s famous role as Eliza Doolittle in the remake of ‘My Fair Lady.’
Now, it the movie is going to ‘updated’ like what the scuttlebutt is saying, it will not be a surprise if the movie producers ask Christopher Bailey to be the Costume Designer. After all, he understands icons very well and knows how to translate and re-imagine them for today’s generation.
