Francis Montesinos Spring 2009

MADRID, Sep 21, 2009 / FW/ — One of the pillars of Spain’s fashion scene, Francis Montesinos opened his first boutique in Valencia in 1972. Since then, he has been a favorite of the Spanish high society in their quest for a decidedly new and genuine style.

For Spring 2009, Urania, Apollo’s lover, according to Greek mythology inspired Francis Montesinos. True to his signature style, which is usually influenced by folklore and its roots, each garment was well researched and reinterpreted, from a personal point of view expanded to include fashion’s prism.

Paying tribute to the magic that transforms the light of the sky and its stars in seconds, Montesinos, used whites, greys and blues and dusty nuances sustained by textile finishes to create a dreamy and almost ephemeral looks.

To add drama, Montesinos introduced pink, mauve and blood red palette on fabrics made out of cotton, silk voiles and openwork, transparent meshes. With the use of natural gauzes and organza, the collection became a kaleidoscope of emotive silhouettes that ranged from flowing asymmetrical skirts to high waisted trousers pleated on the hips to give it shape.
