Frankie Morello Spring 2009

MILAN, Sep 22, 2008 / FW/ — Couture techniques on prêt-a-porter, Maurizio Modica and Pierfrancesco Gigliotti designing for Frankie Morello just added another reason why luxury ready-to-wear will prevail over fast retailing.

In a very directional collection that actually is a juxtaposition of rebellion (whoever heard of couture rebelling against fast retailing?), Frankie Morello insisted that good dressing is alive and well; and that if a woman want the best, they have to go to high street fashion to get it because a ‘copy’ no matter how good is still a ‘copy’.

Without much ado, Modica and Gigliotti sent out silhouettes with rounded volumes with tailored lines; the details, an ironic take on military style which they made light and airy.

The trench coat, based on the army uniform was reworked so that it could have two lengths, reaching the ankle for one and in mini length when the hemline is ‘buttoned up’ at the back.

There is a tongue-in-cheek attitude that made the collection fun. Amidst the seriousness of their statement in reviving true luxury dressing without paying the steep prices of haute couture but also avoiding the fast retailing trap, Maurizio Modica and Pierfrancesco Gigliotti designing for Frankie Morello just received two thumbs up from fashionista.
