La Perla Spring 2009
La Perla Spring 2009

MILAN, Sep 27, 2008 / FW/ — The first of the two farewell collections in Milan, Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s swan song for La Perla shows how much he had done for the label since he took the helm 6 years ago.

Better known for its lingerie than its ready-to-wear, Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s artistic translation of lingerie into outerwear put La Perla on the map as a serious choice for the fashionista.

With his designs only bordering on commercial, but never crossing the line and actually staying largely on the artistic side is one of Dell’Acqua’s great assets as a designer. With that design philosophy as his compass, he brought La Perla into new heights.

His farewell collection is not a retrospective but a true Spring / Summer 2009 proposals as he mixed white and different shades of beige with black, deep blue, turquoise and purple.

Drawstring necklines and cuffs were seen in tunics and mini dresses. Giving a nod to the transparent and latticework trend, wispy blouses and wide-legged trousers looked sensual, even romantic at times. Off-the-shoulder gowns, one-shoulder tops and strapless cocktail dresses insinuated smoldering sexiness without being vulgar.

In this tempered sensuality, Alessandro Dell’Acqua found the perfect pitch for the collection. In a season where ostentatiousness is frowned upon, the La Perla’s low key approach hit the mark.
