MILAN, Sep 22, 2008 / FW/ — Studies have shown the importance of play in a healthy lifestyle, luckily designers like Maria Calderara make clothes that force you to play with your creativity.  Hew unique tucks and ties in her collections, are transformable and can change a skirt into a dress, petticoat, or stole.  For Spring Summer 2009 Maria Calderara’s collection was all about natural and elegant play.
Long transparent red panels hung from the floor to the ceiling as the models walked thru them, in and out of clear view.  There was beauty to the “play time” and an artistic take on what clothes should be.  Maria Calderara makes it easy for anyone to be an artist by using her masterful skill at draping to create a multitude of enticing options all within one piece.
This collection was light and free with clothes draping and flowing over the body in soft liquid folds.  Geometric shapes quickly transform into shapes that are much softer and feminine.  Colors go from basics to bright, as jewelry is bold and glittery.  The contrast of modest and extravagant is evident in the modest floor-length dress and the stupendous jeweled necklaces that accompany them.  Beauty is in being unique and elegant at the same time.
Silks are smooth and shine in the moving folds under the lights.  Contrasting these sleek fabrics are the gunmetal balls scattered on crotchet necklaces.  The large and bulky aspects to the jewelry, work well with the slender lines of the clothes creating depth and attraction all at the same time.
Celebrating womanly traits and desires, Maria Calderara’s Spring Summer 2009 collection does so in an artistic way.  Her mastery at creating pieces that are complex and simple at the same time has never been more element then in this collection.
