PARIS, Oct 4, 2008 / FW/ — Basket, Sneakers, Sac, Shoe… proclaimed the tees that husband and wife design team Marithé & Francois Girbaud sent on the runway Tuesday, a tongue-in-cheek statement about the fashionista’s obsession with expensive bags.

For Spring 2009, Marithé & Francois Girbaud is saying that clothes also give the hallway fashionistas and college coeds bragging rights. From the medieval styled knickers to the sheered skirt with a trouser front on top, Girbaud juxtaposed traditional garment parts in unexpected ways.

The varsity blouson were turned into a double-layer jacket, the trench coat was rendered sleeveless, given an A-line shape and worn with shorts or skort made from the same fabric, thus making it into a separate.

It’s a very youthful collection with denim still at its center. But, it is not cliché-ish. In fact, it is very fashion forward. Surprisingly enough, an accessory – the shoes – was one of the standouts.
