Guillermina Baeza Spring 2009

MADRID, Oct 21, 2008 / FW/ — Guillermina Baeza’s 2009 collection is inspired by French haute couture of the 50s. Draped designs and sophisticated cuts enhance and harmonize the female figure without losing 21st century functionality and aesthetics.

She is a woman who retrieves the femininity of the past without losing the dynamism and freedom of the present. Satin and stretch organza in pink, fuchsia, mauve and stone dominate the collection.

Born in the Spanish protectorate of Morocco, Guillermina Baeza’s exposure to different ethnicities and cultures coupled with an extremely European education have a strong influence in her design aesthetics.

In the 60s, she moved to the cosmopolitan city of Barcelona and, in the 70s, she began her professional career which, little by little, earned her a prominent space in the world of swimwear and lingerie design.
In the 80s, not only the most important European distribution circuits but also the great fashion showcases, such as the Salón Gaudí in Barcelona and the Prêt-à-porter in Paris, began to demand her presence.

Nowadays, Guillermina Baeza is a prestigious, emblematic Spanish fashion figure and the presentations of her swimwear and lingerie collections in different frameworks in the city of Barcelona have become essential engagements for the mass media and basically the specialized press twice a year.

With good reason, her ongoing presence on the catwalks over time has led her to create a style of her own overflowing with originality and glamour, and has reinforced the maxim of Guillermina Baeza’s philosophy: «Swimwear and lingerie are not mere accessories. Today, they take on the same importance as outerwear».

Her return to the Madrid Pasarela Cibeles in the 2008 spring-summer edition coincides with a period of greater expansion and international impact. Guillermina Baeza’s work has not only made her a leader in the international marketplace, but it has also led her to compete with the best European firms.

Her daughter, Belén Larruy, can currently be found alongside the designer directing the creative team.
Guillermina Baeza’s great merit has always consisted in knowing how to apply her intuition to market needs so that she is able to cover its different segments according to styles, tastes and ages.
