Hussein Chalayan Spring 2009

PARIS, Oct 6, 2008 / FW/ — Hussein Chalayan is one of those designers whom we fell in love at first sight and the love affair continues season after season, including Spring 2009.

In a high concept, high fashion show, Hussein Chalayan proposed sculpted mini dresses that were given 3-D effect by cleverly differentiating color shades or by folding and rolling. There is a futuristic quality, something that Hussein Chalayan is very comfortable with.

With futurism as a major trend this season, Hussein Chalayan was ahead of everyone. Never crossing the line towards sci-fi, Chalayan’s Spring 2009 collection is highly covetable and highly wearable, a new concept when proposing a futuristic collection.

Case in point, the grayish white skirt and blouse. A tailored mini wrap skirt is paired with a sleeveless blouse that defined the woman’s hourglass figure. The collar is exaggerated and ‘rounded’ as if it was filled with down feathers, then finished off with a diagonal sewn in belt.

If ever there was a remake of Blade Runner, these clothes will fit in the movie. Ironically, the movie Blade Runner is set in Los Angeles in the year 2019, which is just 10 years hence.

An interesting question to ask regarding the ‘future’ is ‘Are we there yet?’ From the looks of it, we are!
