PARIS, Oct 4, 2008 / FW/ — Understanding how viral a YouTube movie clip is, Viktor & Rolf decided to unveil their Spring 2009 collection online, on their website at www.viktor-rolf.com

Using only one model, Shalom Harlow, Viktor & Rolf used ‘Hollywood magic,’ or in this case Windows Movie Maker or Apple’s Quicktime to have Shalom do the whole runway show, including the finale wherein about 10 Shaloms were clapping while waiting for Viktor & Rolf to make their appearance.

The show is signature Viktor & Rolf. Their treatment of pleats and draping is innovative as exemplified by the last exit, a giant spiral made of accordion pleated fabric. But, the effect was lost watching it on a computer screen, which goes to show that nothing could replace a live catwalk show.

On the other hand, Viktor & Rolf did not upload this show or at least a 3-4 minute clip of this show at YouTube, thus losing the viral aspect of launching something online. The Dutch design duo is very progressive, but the main reason why a lot of designers and fashion houses have not embraced Web 2.0 still prevailed, i.e., nothing could replace the atmosphere and excitement of seeing everything live!
