LOS ANGELES, Oct 19, 2008 / FW/ — Named the ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ Designer for the Spring 2009 season of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios, Whitley Kros joins stellar names like Ralph Rucci and Bradley Bayou, who had been given that honor.

Comprised of design duo Marissa Ribisi and Sophia Coloma, Whitley Kros is a fictionalized character named after a street in Ribisi’s hometown of Los Angeles and Coloma’s in Sydney.

Ribisi and Coloma created Whitley Kros to embody their vision and design esthetic and act as muse for the label. A relaxed style focused on fun fashion created with colorful and interesting prints to reflect a chic traveling flair.

For Spring 2009, Whitley Kros’ romantic adventure in Morocco, Greece and Africa inspired the collection. Printed silks, linen/cotton knits, washed chambray, printed chiffon, solid silk charmeuse, and printed cotton are all materials used in the collection.

The collection’s color palate is sky blue, mustard, sherbet, silver, and navy solids mix in with romantic, whimsical prints.

“I went to Morocco with Allen Ginsberg in my satchel and Bob Dylan in my ears,” says Whitley Kros about the inspiration for the Spring 2009 collection. “I met Alessandro and embarked on a romantic adventure…safari in Africa and sunsets in Greece.”
