NEW YORK, Nov 25, 2008 / FW/ — For the fifth year in a row, Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store is lit with Crystallized Swarovski Elements, including the holiday store windows.

During the lighting ceremony last night, attended by the glitterati that included designers Zac Posen and Tory Burch, 72,000 energy efficient lights and 50 decorative snowflakes reaching 10 stories high illuminated Fifth Avenue during the Snowflake Spectacular.

The store windows feature one-of-a-kind dresses designed by Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Zac Posen, and Oscar de la Renta adorned with Crystallized™ – Swarovski Elements. The specially commissioned gowns took over 12 weeks to create and reflect over 500 hours of hand embroidery with over 1,000 types of crystals.

In addition to these exclusive pieces, the windows feature over 10 million precision-cut CRYSTALLIZED(TM) – Swarovski Elements.

This year’s theme was inspired by Saks Fifth Avenue’s new children’s holiday book, A Flake Like Mike, written by Emmy-award-winning Simpsons writer Mike Reiss and illustrated by artist Chris Capuozzo.

The theme of the windows is individuality, and unique mechanical snowflakes with human characteristics will captivate shoppers who come to see the story of “Snowflake City.”
