New York Fashion Week Fall 2009: Action & Reaction

DALLAS, Dec 7, 2008 / FW/ — With the registration for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week a.k.a. New York Fashion Week, open beginning tomorrow, the current U.S. recession weighs on everyone’s mind. The situation was the same a year ago, when FW asked, New York Fashion Week Fall 2008: Will This Season Be An Acid Test? The difference is that today, matters had turned from bad to worse.

But pessimism was never my style. And quite frankly, though America might feel morose at times, generally, everyone tends to be optimistic. After all, we are talking about a nation that was started by a group of migrants and immigrants who were all willing to take chances, who were pioneers in their own way.

The time of talking had passed; even the time for analysis had also come and gone. It is a time for action. And that is my prediction for Fall 2009. American designers will be upbeat and hopeful as they courageously face one of the biggest challenges of the decade.
