Gar-de Spring 2009
Gar-de Spring 2009

NEW YORK, Jan 22, 2009 / FW/ — A new name in the New York fashion scene, Gar-de was formed in 2007 with the lofty goal of reinventing high quality materials into innovative designs. Formed in 2007 by a diverse group of young designers, artists and producers, Gar-de’s debuted in Fall 2008 with leather as its focus.

Both the group and the label at its infancy, the plan is that every season, Gar-de will introduce a new product category while simultaneously referencing past themes. Thus, for Spring / Summer 2009, Gar-de is proposing soft knit undergarments alongside finely crafted leather jackets.

“Last season we launched with a leather collection because we wanted to interpret the leather jacket our way as well as connect concepts of exposure and protection. This season, we aimed to take that notion further. We are vulnerable when we are naked or in our underwear. The idea of soft layers worn underneath these colorful and protective leather shells is what was inspirational to us this season; the idea of a turtle and its shell,” explained Gar-de.

With its mix of vulnerability and invincibility, this smart and finely honed GAR-DE S/S 09 collection comes together as a celebration of a younger, edgier elegance.
