Toni Maticevski Fall 2009 Preview

DALLAS, Jan 31, 2009 / FW / — Known for his intricate manipulation of traditional fashion silhouettes,
Toni Maticevski brings the 17th century Baroque masters front and center with his Fall 2009 collection wherein he fused the dramatic elements of 1600s to create opulent silhouettes that are marked with restrained tailoring.

Using hammered silk, cashmere felt and wool, Maticevski tucked, twisted and looped the fabrics to make a narrative statement of restrained opulence. Knotting, ticking, draping and petal fabric manipulation are emblazoned with assemblages of veneered sequins and beading.

The intensity and individualism of Maticevski’s emotive collection are observed in the powerful interplay of beading, gilded sequins and renderings of cloth and skin textures. A “contrapposto”, or counter-direction, between strong, dramatic expressions of detail and effortless fabrication galvanize into an overall sense of awe and haunting.
