DALLAS, Jan 6, 2009 / FW/ — It’s cruise season and the best time to get away from the cold and the snow. Time to pack your bags and this time around, you could be one charger lighter, i.e. if you are wearing the Solar Powered Solar Panel Sun Glasses.

Designed by Hyun-Joong Kim & Kwang-Seok Jeong, SIG or ‘Self-Energy Converting Sunglasses’ is equipped with lenses that have dye solar cells, collecting energy and making it able to power small devices like your iPod or mobile phone through the power jack at the back of the frame.

The glasses themselves don’t need power to block the sun’s rays; that’s power-free. What is inventive is that the lenses’ dye solar cell is made up of “cheap organic dye [used with] nano technology [providing] cheap but high energy efficiency.”

Inexpensive, light, and visible-ray penetrable; e lens turns sunlight rays, (rays that would otherwise harm the eye,) into electrical energy.

Solar chargers are available in many fashion items from phone straps to bags and backpacks, so there are a lot fashionable pieces that you can add to your fashion arsenal while being environmentally friendly.

Here’s the question though – these items have been designed and invented, but when and where they will hit the store shelves? And does it come in different styles other than the one shown?
