Alexander McQueen Fall 2009
Alexander McQueen Fall 2009

PARIS, Mar 13, 2009 / FW/ — If there was a definitive moment during the Paris Fall 2009 season, it was during the Alexander McQueen show wherein the designer reminded everyone what fashion is all about – the experimentation and pushing the envelope, taking risks and inventing new ways to dress.

In a season gripped by a global economic crisis, wherein from New York, London, Milan and Paris, timidity existed when it comes to proposing something new, Alexander McQueen reminded us that creativity like electricity cannot be stored. It has to be used at that time it was sparked or you will lose it forever.

Why is that so? Because in the next second, the next day, the next week or the next season, you will have a new inspiration and the old one you were saving, it is already passé; it had passed that moment when it was relevant.

For Alexander McQueen, the recession has its own effects. Perhaps, for the British-born designer, it was to become like Beethoven whose drums are louder and the violins whispers; the crescendos are higher and the pianissimo are quieter.

So, he sent out oversized houndstooth, which was hard to see first, because they were gigantic; the waists are tinier and the pencil-cut skirts were slimmer; the high heels are elevated and the lipstick, well, they defined a bigger mouth.

Everything was pushed to the extreme; perhaps that is what Alexander McQueen envisions for the 2010s – push creativity to the limits so that we can define the new decade and in turn the new century.

And one last thing, Alexander McQueen should change his name to Alexander McKing because he is truly the King of Fashion.
