Gareth Pugh Fall 2009
Gareth Pugh Fall 2009

PARIS, Mar 4, 2009 / FW/ — Gareth Pugh’s Fall 2009 gothic-inspired menswear collection is a hard act to follow, even for the London-based designer. But, Gareth Pugh did top himself by presenting a video / movie of his collection, instead of a runway show.

Through the magic of film editing, the female model became a video game vixen as she did “impossible” stuff like separating her torso from her waist, turning her head 240 degrees; and then being “born” from a quilted cocoon in metallic pink.

With all the jumping and movements that are possible only in the virtual world, Gareth Pugh’s view of Fall 2009 is futuristic. With all the references to “body parts bending”, there is also that vampire theme, and then it became modern gothic.

The third designer of the day to unveil a gothic theme, Gareth Pugh’s incorporation of the “video” element altered the parameter of how we see gothic fashion.
