Givenchy Fall 2009
Givenchy Fall 2009

PARIS, Mar 12, 2009 / FW/ — With the current dark, brooding and futuristic gothic trend in Paris, Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy could easily have grabbed the moment and regale the whole world with his darkly romantic silhouettes that is his signature style and which he had also incorporated in Givenchy.

But, Tisci, for some unknown reasons just did the exact opposite. While even Leonard and Christian Lacroix, who are known for their exuberant use of color had ‘toned’ it down with the use of black, Tisci used more color this season than before!

True, the colors are beige and silvery white, but the point is there are a higher number of pieces in color than before. And yes, there are a lot of black pieces, which after all is this season’s color of the moment and Tisci’s favorite. Yet, somehow, you feel that Tisci wasted a great opportunity to be the man of the hour this season.

Sending a 1980s inspired collection with the ubiquitous pagoda shoulders but with touches of 1970s as referenced by the models’ crimped hair, Tisci did not propose anything new this season, except perhaps that he can also do silhouettes other than black.

That said,
