Kris Van Assche Fall 2009
Kris Van Assche Fall 2009

PARIS, Mar 4, 2009 / FW/ — It’s just the first day of Paris Fashion Week (Paris Prêt-a-porter) and the gothic trend is already predominant with Belgian designer Kris Van Assche as one of the main proponents.

Poetic as always, Kris Van Assche’s vision of Gothic is romantic and futuristic. Models in ponytails, their faces in a half-mask of dark make up that is almost tribal, the predominantly black collection interspersed only with white to so as not to be monotonous is new vision of the modern romantic.

Minimalist (the clothes have no adornment); a cape that pulls double duty as a shawl for head cover is the only accessory proposed.

Flowing caftans and jumpsuits are paired with removable hoodies lined with fur. Cigarette pants (or are they leggings) are worn under coat dresses or drop-down waist tunics. The cuff on the harem pants were raised to reach below the knee, resulting to voluminous pant legs.

Vests and suit jackets complete the collection, wherein their presence also makes the pieces aspirational and highly covetable.
