DALLAS, Mar 17, 2009 / FW/ — Two days after unveiling her Fall 2009 collection in Paris, Veronique Branquinho was named Artistic Director at the House of Delvaux, the oldest fine leather luxury goods company in the world.

As announced last March 9th, Veronique Branquinho, in her new role as Artistic Director, will be working closely with Didier Vervaeren who has been running Studio Delvaux for a number of years. And, as a token of Branquinho’s collaboration with the Brussels-based company, the Delvaux Fall 2009 / Winter 2010 collection will feature three models developed by Veronique.

Commenting on her appointment, Veronique Branquinho said, “I find it wonderful to be able to work with such a high quality product, for a Belgian company that can boast of an incredible tradition and specialized know-how.”

“I really see this as a long-term collaboration. In my opinion, this collaboration will be a success if I still see people walking around in twenty years’ time with the handbags that I am working now,” the Belgian designer added.

Though Charles Delvaux had been working on leather goods before 1829, it was not until that year when he added a shop window in his Brussels studio that the House of Delvaux was formally introduced to the world. His handcrafted travel trunks quickly gained universal admiration amongst the cognoscenti.

In 1883, Delvaux became a warrant holder to the Court of Belgium. And, in 1898, the House was the first to patent a model (the Edison trunk). Spurred on by this success, the range was further extended to include luggage, boxes, suitcases, and more, registering a model of bag in 1908. The House of Delvaux was also the one who invented the concept of leather goods season.
