Founded by Dutch design duo Niels Klavers (b. 1967) and Astrid Van Engelen (b. 1970) in the late 1990s, Klavers van Engelen had presented its collections at the Mercedes- Benz Dutch Fashion Awards in Amsterdam (2008), the Magazzini di Porta Genova in Milan (2008), the Elle Style Event in Amsterdam (2004), Espace St. Martin in Paris (2002), and the Museum of Fashion and Textiles in Paris.
 Prior to their collaboration, both Niels Klavers and Astrid Van Engelen taught design and fashion at various specialized schools and institutes in the Netherlands and are well known for their contributions to work in design and architecture.
