LONDON, May 26, 2009 / FW/ — In a surprise announcement today, the British Fashion Council (BFC) confirmed that Burberry will show its flagship collection Prorsum at London Fashion Week this September.

Historically shown in Milan during Milano Moda Donna, Burberry’s move to London coincides with the 25th anniversary celebration of the British Fashion Council, London Fashion Week and the British Fashion Award.

Exhibiting a hearty enthusiasm for “coming home,” Christopher Bailey, Creative Director of Burberry said, “We are so excited to be showing during London Fashion Week and particularly to be part of its historic 25th anniversary. We are incredibly proud of our Britishness and this is really a wonderful opportunity to celebrate that in our home city.”

A fashion industry darling, Christopher Bailey is known for putting “Britishness” front and center in his collections. His inspirations are essentially British ranging from an English garden to the Highlands. Innovative and always pushing the envelope when it comes to high fashion, Christopher Bailey is instrumental in rebooting the 150-year old British label by making it young and hip, thus turning it highly desirable and covetable to three generations of fashionistas.

BFC Chairman Harold Tillman echoes Christopher Bailey’s sentiments. “Burberry is quintessentially British, a leading heritage brand, a global success and we are delighted they are joining London Fashion Week to celebrate 25 Years of British Fashion,” Tillman said in a statement.

London Fashion Week will take place from 18th – 22nd September at its new cultural home Somerset House. The move to a more centrally located and iconic venue is part of the council’s 25 year celebrations.
