DALLAs, May 15, 2009 / FW/ — There seems to be something more to ruffles this season that adds elegance to an outfit instead of portraying a frilly, “too-girly” image.

The mixture of this detail with fitted silhouettes makes these usually cutesy additions into a something somewhat sensual. It adds volume to a shape and interest to an ensemble.

Mara Hoffman adds ruffles to add femininity to a bohemian pattern, while Zac Posen uses them to exaggerate a sci-fi appearance. J Mendel and Milly used them to completely transform a silhouette by placing them at waist, hip, and body of skirts.
