Gucci Menswear Spring 2010

MILAN, Jun 21, 2009 / FW/ — If you’re thinking Jonas Brothers or even Mick Jagger or David Bowie, just to touch all age groups, when you see the Gucci Men Spring 2010 collection, you’re not really far off.

The label’s current Creative Director, Frida Giannini has always had an affinity to rock star glam since she took at the helm at the Italian maison.

But, this time, the rock star is not on tour; in fact, he is on vacation and travelling without his entourage, but still dressed to the nines. After all, one never knows when paparazzi are lurking around.

Giving a big nod to the travel theme, Frida Giannini began with a whole section of all-white ensembles and the models carrying big totes or travelling bags. (This is Gucci after all, where leather goods are the bread and butter.)

The jacket might be optical white, but the shirts are done in bold graphical prints following the kilim patterns which are done in black, white, yellow and grays in-between. Sleeveless knits were also proposed with the kilim pattern as focal point.

So, is our rock star going to Turkey? Apparently not! He has packed swimsuits and vests that could be worn underwater thanks to new fabric technology! Who needs a scuba suit if you have Gucci? Or is it another niche market that the Italian maison is thinking of getting into?

Frida Giannini still has detractors, but more and more fashionistas are warming up to her, including this one!
