PARIS, Jul 8, 2009 / FW/ — So much had been written about the House of Christian Lacroix lately, that putting them down here will just be repeating what everyone had said.
But, just in case you haven’t heard, the House of Christian Lacroix, currently owned by the Florida-based Falic Group is under the U.S. equivalent of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. If the owners do not find a buyer within six months, the house of Christian Lacroix will be liquidated.
Understanding and knowing the generosity of the fashion crowd, everyone went out to support Christian Lacroix, the designer and the house that bears his name. Using fabric that the house already owns, everyone worked free from the embroiderers to the seamstresses. Even the models walked for free!
Everyone wants for Christian Lacroix to triumph because this might be his last couture show if a new investor is not found. And triumphed he did as he sent clothes that are aspirational yet can be everyday chic.
The finale, following Christian Lacroix’s tradition is the bride who is so beautiful; it brings tears to your eyes. And, perhaps, if Christian Lacroix is looking for a miracle, he will get one because whether it was by design or just by accident, the bride could easily pass for the ‘fashionable rendition’ of the Lady of Guadalupe, (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe), a 16th century icon of the Virgin Mary. Without going into religion and mysticism, it will take a miracle to find another investor for Christian Lacroix in the current global recession. Yet, the homemade banner that was unfurled after the catwalk show saying, ‘Christian Lacroix Forever’, has a ring of truth to it.
One of the most talented couturiers of our time, Christian Lacroix will forever be etched in our fashionistas’ hearts for his contributions to fashion.
