Georges Hobeika Haute Couture Fall 2009

PARIS, Jul 7, 2009 / FW/ — In a word: fabulous. Hobeika’s latest collection was extravagantly fun and pleasantly youthful. Every look bested its predecessor, which was no small task seeing as though the show started out strong.

Bold fabric selections stood out first and foremost, with hot pink, lime green, balm yellow, black, and red-orange dresses dominating the runway. But in close second was the sheer volume of the pieces, with formidable layered skirts, enormous bows, and puckering standing out inches from the body.

Accordingly, there were no dainty details, but rather wide metallic waist-cinchers, blinding crystals, and long patent black gloves which held their own against the whimsical frocks.

The overall look was awesomely 80’s, with exaggerated shoulders topping off many ensembles. Even the hair was noteworthy, French twists’ ends swept across the forehead to create choppy bangs.

The rock-star-Barbie, good-girl-with-an-edge, cupcake-acid-trip show created and kept the excitement throughout, with even the most stoic fashion show regulars turning giddy thanks to Georges Hobeika.
