PARIS, Jul 9, 2009 / FW/ — The laminated flowers inside the On Aura Tout Vu invitation hinted at what to expect from their 2009 couture show taking place at the gardens in the Palais Royal.
It was definitely on the whimsical side, with models looking like the love children of a one night stand between a fairy and a raccoon, covered in matted fur, crystals, and candy-colored twigs.
Laminated foliage like that from the invitations cascaded down gowns in layers while long branches were incorporated into the fabric and as accessories. The end result from these looks was trés costume-y with some of the forest nymphs looking quite silly.
That’s not to say that every piece failed or that I didn’t enjoy the show, the clothing was very beautiful and many things were actually wearable.
The use of translucent fabrics with lace, fur, and crystal appliqués was well executed- the white fur coat being the crown jewel of the collection in my humble opinion.
In the end, it was a fun show and thoroughly entertaining, but I must deem the collection more cute than couture.
