PARIS, Jul 2, 2009 / FW/ — Following the dramatic Fall 2009 ‘Chrysalis’, Tomoaki Okaniwa, designing under the label Viridi-Anne took a similar inspiration from nature for Spring 2010, but this time the designer marked both an end and a beginning, a transformation not just for the collection but also for the label.

The Viridi-Anne Spring 2010

Entitle “ECDYSIS”, pronounced as ec•dy•sis is defined as the shedding of an outer layer of skin, as by insects and snakes.

As can be seen from its definition the process of ecdysis symbolizes the end of one period and the beginning of a new time of growth. The shedding of one’s physical and psychological skin.

Tomoaki Okaniwa sees this collection as a new phase for the label – a continuation of the quality and aesthetics of past seasons but with an exploration of new forms of wearability, structure and shape.

Just as “Chrysalis”was born from a feeling of wanting to remain underground, strong and protected; “Ecdysis” on the other hand symbolize a yearning to move, to challenge and to progress.

Even in deepest, darkest recession natural law requires new shoots of positive growth and opportunity to become manifest. This collection is full of this positive spirit. Created from opposites and balanced by contradictions. The designer has both returned to street and sport inspirations whilst taking the construction and materials to further artisanal and classic tailoring heights.

Influences can be seen from early explorers, mountaineers and cycling wear. Materials are durable, wearable , practical and timelessly stylish. Protective and strong, light and pleasing to the touch. The core values of the label continue with the outer form transformed.

A new way of existence beckons. Let the ECDYSIS begin.
