NEW YORK, Aug 1, 2009 / FW/ — CITYarts empowers children and youth by bringing them together with professional artists to create public art that addresses civic and social issues, impacts their lives, and transforms their communities.

To support this non-profit organization, DKNY held an event at its store on Madison Avenue on July 29th to introduce two unique items available for purchase – the DKNY Chari-tee and 8 totes designed by NYC students for CITYarts.

Through the generosity of the over 200 guests that attended, DKNY was able to give back to an organization that literally provides color to the streets of New York – and to the lives of New Yorkers.

DKNY created eight styles of “eco-friendly printed” totes featuring artwork of eight NYC students, created for the CITYarts “portraits of peace” initiative

There are 5 of each style – 40 unique bags in total. The totes were printed using an eco-friendly digital printing process. The resulting water-based design is printed without screens or films utilizing less ink with no excess ink waste.

The totes are only $25 each; with all proceeds going back to CITYarts. The totes will only be available at the DKNY store on Madison Avenue.

Named “Chari-Tee”, DKNY designed a t-shirt honoring the city that inspires the label which is also an interactive program between DKNY and those who love and wear it.

DKNY’s Chari-Tee retails for $65 and benefits a menu of NYC organizations. Each hangtag lists five NYC charities to which you can donate.  Once you’ve decided on the organization, log on to www.dkny.com, and select your choice. DKNY will then donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of your Chari-tee.

It’s a fun, cool way to send instant love to NYC via the following organizations: The Fund for Public Schools, City Harvest, The Doe Fund, The Urban Zen Foundation and CITYarts.

Both the DKNY totes and Chari-Tee are limited edition and are only available while supplies last.
