NEW YORK, Sep 11, 2009 / FW/ — From uptown to downtown in Manhattan, to all the Burroughs, New York City became one big block party last night as the Big Apple marked the beginning of the Spring 2010 womenswear season.
Meant to be a night of fun, Fashion’s Night Out is also part of the concentrated effort in 15 fashion capitals around the world to get the consumers shopping again and get everyone out of the economic doldrums.
Now, if I were a betting man, I would say that this is going to be successful as seen by the support given by retailers and fashion designers in the New York City area.
First stop, Calvin Klein Collection’s Madison Avenue Store
With live performances by musician Jaime Burke, an art installation to benefit ACRIA and special guests actress Michelle Monaghan and Olympic Fencer Jason Rogers, Calvin Klein Collection’s Creative Directors’ Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli hosted a one-of-a-kind evening of shopping and cocktails. All were wardrobed in Calvin Klein Collection designed by Mr. Costa and Mr. Zucchelli, respectively.
In addition, Calvin Klein Collection wardrobed members of the band burke., Mila de Wit, actress Rutina Wesley, and Zani Gugelman.
Other notables in attendance included Kelly Klein, Lou Lou de la Falaise, Ariel de Ravenel, Sara Paxton, Nico Tortella, Christine Baranski, Virgina Smith, Candy Pratts-Price, Edward Enninful, Carlos Souza, Lisa Marie Fernandez, Raquel Zimmerman, Sessilee Lopez, Olivia Chantecaille, Lucy Sykes & Euan Rellie, Steven Kolb, Fisher Stevens, and Robert Burke.
Throughout the evening, musician Jamie Burke performed live acoustic sets with his band on the main floor while guests sipped champagne.
The event also featured an exhibit and silent auction of unique art and photographs to benefit Aids Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA). Works included were by artists and photographers Ross Bleckner, Donald Baechler, Steven Klein, Mary Heilmann, Christopher Wool, Terence Koh, Kenny Scharf, and Michael Bevilaqua.
