NEW YORK, Dec 17, 2009 / FW/ — An inductee to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Patti Smith does not need an introduction. As one of the early pioneers of New York City’s dynamic punk scene she has been creating her unique blend of poetic rock and roll for over 35 years.
For 11 years, photographer/director Steven Sebring has been photographing the legendary singer, poet and artist Patti Smith. Known for his work in editorial shoots for magazines and ad campaigns for companies such as Ralph Lauren, Lanvin, Maybelline, DKNY, Dockers and Coach, it his shooting celebrity and artist portraiture that led to his meeting and photographing the legendary singer, poet and artist, Patti Smith.
Upon seeing her perform, Sebring was so moved, that he encouraged her to allow him to begin filming, resulting in the eleven year film project “Dream of Life.” The film premiered at the Sundance film festival where he won the award for excellence in cinematography for a documentary.
Now that the film had been shown, Patti Smith and Steven Sebring are taking the “Dream of Life” one step further with the “Objects of Life” multi-media installation. Showcasing all things Patti, the exhibition is based on Sebring’s 12 year documentary “Dream of Life” starring the rock icon.
Comprised of Patti’s personal objects, some photographed others in their natural form, a video installation, a rare oil painting by Patti and scenes from the movie recreated; this exhibit is the most extensive to date and promises to be a really exciting treat.
